Library Maintenance Supervisor

Position Purpose/Summary
Responsible for maintaining the exterior and interior of the Central Library and all City library branches. Coordinates with facilities management for tradesmen as well as using the City Munis work order system. Work is performed with professional administrative judgment and decision in accordance with the policies and objectives of the Library Department, with review by the Business Manager who reviews work through reports and conferences. Supervision is exercised over all assigned personnel.
Essential Functions
- Maintains adequate interior and exterior lighting. Replaces bulbs, lenses or other light fixture related parts.
- Performs basic rough carpentry. Installs or repairs library furniture, cabinetry, locks, artwork, minor window work and many other carpentry related issues.
- Coordinates movement of heavy objects. Moves and delivers furniture, office supplies, cleaning supplies, books, mail, and other items being delivered to libraries and other city buildings.
- Monitors library HVAC systems. Reports major HVAC problems to designated facilities management personnel, changes filters, oversees the seasonal switch over of HVAC systems, and installation and seasonal removal of window air conditioners at various library buildings.
- Monitors and maintains plumbing at all library buildings. Performs minor plumbing work, and reports major plumbing issues to facilities management personnel.
- Monitors and maintains building grounds. Monitors storm drains, removes snow/ice on sidewalks and stairs during inclement weather, litter removal, light pruning and weeding, and monitors security systems at branch libraries.
- Performs other similar duties as requested.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment processes, and techniques of the work performed.
- Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in work performed.
- Some knowledge of the fundamentals of a variety of skilled trades.
- Ability to work from written and oral instructions, sketches, and drawings.
- Ability to supervise the work of assigned helpers.
- Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials employed in the work performed.
Education And Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of previous experience conducting building maintenance and supervising maintenance workers.
