POSITION INFO
Job Purpose To inspect, repair, and straighten damaged trailer chassis and structural components using specialised equipment and repair techniques, ensuring all work meets manufacturer specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. Key Responsibilities Assess damaged trailer chassis and identify structural defects. Measure chassis alignment using approved measuring equipment. Straighten and repair trailer chassis using hydraulic pulling equipment, jigs, and other specialised tools. Repair or replace damaged structural components where required. Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication work as necessary. Ensure all chassis repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and industry standards. Conduct final inspections to verify structural integrity and alignment. Maintain workshop equipment and ensure it is used correctly. Keep accurate records of repairs completed. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment. Adhere to company policies and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations. Collaborate with panel beaters, welders, spray painters, and workshop personnel to ensure efficient workflow. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent. Minimum 3-5 years' experience in trailer chassis straightening or heavy vehicle structural repairs. Experience working on commercial trailers, trucks, or heavy-duty vehicles. Competent in hydraulic straightening equipment and chassis alignment systems. Welding experience (MIG/COâ) is essential. Valid driver's licence (Code 10 or Code 14 advantageous). Ability to work overtime when required. Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of trailer chassis construction and structural components. Ability to interpret technical drawings and repair specifications. Knowledge of chassis measuring and alignment procedures. Proficient in welding, grinding, cutting, and fabrication techniques. Ability to use workshop measuring equipment accurately. Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship. Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills. Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and company safety procedures. Operate hydraulic equipment, welding machines, and workshop tools safely. Report unsafe conditions, defective equipment, and workplace incidents immediately. Maintain good housekeeping standards within the workshop.
