Finance Manager

The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the full finance function of the organisation, ensuring statutory compliance, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing strategic financial insight to support business decision-making. The role includes leading a finance team, managing cash flow and working capital, driving financial controls, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting. The Finance Manager will also play a key role in supporting operational efficiency and maintaining strong financial governance across the business.
Financial Oversight and Compliance
- Manage the full finance function of the organisation.
- Ensure all statutory submissions are completed accurately and on time (VAT, PAYE, Workmen’s Compensation, etc.).
- Supervise and support finance staff, including the accountant and administrative support roles.
- Ensure Debtors, Creditors, and Cashbooks are accurately maintained and up to date.
- Resolve financial queries in collaboration with the finance team.
- Oversee outsourced IT finance-related functions with a dotted reporting line.
- Manage non-core financial contracts outside of standard supply chain processes.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust financial reporting systems (AP, AR, and cash management).
- Prepare monthly management accounts and annual budgets.
- Present cash flow reports and monitor liquidity positions.
- Manage bank accounts, petty cash, and corporate credit cards.
- Support annual financial statement preparation, audits, and tax submissions.
- Perform month-end and year-end processes, including system rollovers.
- Serve as system super-user (Syspro), including user access control and reporting.
- Develop KPI frameworks linked to performance and incentive structures.
Debtors, Creditors, and Cash Flow Management
- Ensure effective debtor collections and creditor payments.
- Perform reconciliations and ensure accurate processing of all transactions.
- Negotiate supplier terms and early settlement discounts where possible.
- Monitor and manage working capital requirements.
- Analyse cost structures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Oversee stock management, provisions, and write-downs.
Risk Management and Strategic Finance
- Engage with financial institutions for funding requirements and negotiate favourable terms.
- Review and renegotiate contracts and financial agreements.
- Conduct financial and cost analysis, including labour and material variances.
- Analyse job costing variances and implement corrective actions.
- Manage procurement controls, forex exposure, and purchasing processes.
- Ensure compliance with loan covenants and internal financial policies.
Operational Efficiency and Business Support
- Prepare operational and financial risk reports for management.
- Advise department heads on financially sound decision-making.
- Monitor compliance with internal policies and drive continuous improvement.
- Identify training needs within the finance function and support team development.
- Ensure timely submission and accuracy of all financial records and reports.
- Manage and evaluate capital expenditure requests.
Asset Management and Internal Controls
- Maintain the fixed asset register and oversee asset tracking.
- Manage insurance claims, inventory controls, and work-in-progress (WIP).
- Authorise purchase requisitions in line with financial controls.
- Oversee stock counts, variances, and investigations into obsolete stock.
- Review job costing and ensure accuracy of costing methodologies.
- Maintain strong internal controls across all financial processes.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal governance standards.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CA(SA) preferred).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial management, preferably within manufacturing or costing-intensive environments.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Syspro and advanced Excel skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing finance teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and commercial acumen.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly.
- Solid understanding of financial regulations, compliance, and governance frameworks.
