Position: Power BI / Microsoft Fabric Specialist
We are looking for a Senior Power BI and Microsoft Fabric specialist with strong end‑to‑end analytics and data‑platform experience. This is not a report‑developer role; it requires someone who is comfortable operating across data engineering, semantic modelling, and executive‑level analytics.
Qualifications and Experience
- Matric/Grade 12 Certificate.
- Microsoft Power BI certification.
- 3-5 years’ experience as a BI Analyst, BI Developer, Data Analyst, SQL Developer, Insights Analyst or similar.
- Must have advanced expertise in Power BI, including DAX, semantic model design, performance optimisation, security (RLS/OLS), and deployment pipelines.
- Be highly proficient in Microsoft Fabric.
- Hands‑on experience building solutions using Lakehouses, Warehouses, OneLake, Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, and Notebooks is essential, along with a solid understanding of Direct Lake, DirectQuery, and Import connectivity.
- A numerate degree – Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Operations Research, or similar.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to work through ambiguous problems.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with good written and verbal English.
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric.
- DAX experience and Power BI data modelling beyond drag-and-drop visuals.
- Clear Criminal record.
- Valid Driver’s license and own reliable transport.
- Should reside in the Gauteng area.
Key Performance areas (Not totally inclusive)
- Must have strong lakehouse and modern data‑platform knowledge, including Delta tables, Bronze/Silver/Gold patterns, ELT design, schema evolution, and analytics built directly on lake storage.
- The role also requires data‑engineering capability, including SQL, Spark / PySpark, API and Azure SQL integrations, and data quality controls.
- A key requirement is a solid understanding of how databases and query engines work, including modern data‑modelling concepts, keys and relationships, indexing and partitioning strategies, and how performance is affected across SQL, DAX, Spark SQL, and Fabric execution engines.
- Beyond technical skills, the role requires strong business and communication skills—the ability to translate requirements into scalable analytical models, define KPIs, optimise cost and performance, and deliver executive‑ready insights within a governed Azure/Fabric environment.
- Experience with Azure, data governance, security best practices, and capacity management is expected.
- Microsoft Fabric certification (DP‑600) is a strong advantage.
