Substation Engineer

Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Substation Engineer to become part of their expanding power engineering division in Johannesburg. This position offers exposure to technically challenging transmission and distribution projects, with opportunities to contribute to both design excellence and project leadership.

The successful candidate will work on high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substation projects, supporting the delivery of reliable electrical infrastructure for a diverse client base.

Key areas of responsibility

• Designing primary and secondary plant systems for HV and EHV substations.
• Producing technical solutions for AIS and GIS substation projects.
• Carrying out engineering studies, including network and protection assessments.
• Leading technical work packages and supporting project delivery.
• Conducting specialist analyses, including lightning protection studies.
• Preparing engineering documentation and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams and clients.

The ideal candidate will possess

• A BSc or BEng in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional registration with ECSA
• Experience delivering substation projects within the 132kV to 765kV environment.
• Practical knowledge of primary and secondary plant engineering.
• Strong technical problem-solving abilities and sound engineering judgement.
