SUMMARY

Seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead a heavy engineering production workshop focused on machining, fabrication and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership skills and experience managing machine shop operations and production teams.

POSITION INFO

Minimum Requirements Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 5 years experience managing a heavy engineering production workshop or machine shop. Proven experience supervising machining, fabrication, welding and assembly operations. Strong leadership, production planning, budgeting and people management skills. Sound knowledge of health & safety, quality systems and continuous improvement. Essential Industry Experience Applicants must come from a heavy engineering production, machine shop or engineering manufacturing environment , with experience managing operations involving: CNC Lathes (large shafts, rollers and precision components) Conventional Centre Lathes Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs) Horizontal Borers Milling Machines Radial Arm Drills Surface Grinders CNC Machining Centres Welding Bays (MIG, TIG, FCAW & SAW) Plasma Cutting Tables Guillotines Press Brakes Overhead Cranes Key Responsibilities Manage the daily operations of a heavy engineering production workshop. Lead Workshop Supervisors and production teams to achieve safety, quality and productivity targets. Plan and schedule machining, fabrication and assembly activities. Ensure efficient utilisation of labour, equipment and materials. Drive continuous improvement, operational excellence and cost control. Implement and maintain SOPs, KPIs and quality standards. Ensure compliance with SHERQ, health & safety and ISO requirements. Manage workshop budgets, reporting and resource planning. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and clients.
