Role Description

The Volunteer Social Media Manager will support Word of Life Wellness Centre by managing its social media presence on-site at the Durban location. This volunteer role includes planning and scheduling posts, writing and editing content, and ensuring messaging aligns with the Centre’s mission and values. Day-to-day tasks involve monitoring social media channels, responding to comments and messages in a respectful and timely manner, and optimizing posts for reach and engagement. The volunteer will collaborate with staff to gather stories, updates, and educational materials about sober living and wellness, and translate them into accessible social content. The role may also include tracking basic performance metrics and suggesting improvements to strengthen community awareness and support.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills in Social Media Marketing and Social Media Optimization (SMO), with the ability to grow and engage online communities.
  • Strong Communication and Writing skills, including clear, empathetic, and inclusive messaging tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Experience or interest in Content Strategy, with the ability to plan and organize campaigns that align with organizational goals.
  • Comfort working on-site in Durban and collaborating with team members and residents in a sensitive, recovery-oriented environment.
  • Basic understanding of mental health or substance use recovery issues is beneficial, along with a commitment to confidentiality and non-judgmental support.
  • Ability to manage time independently, use social media and basic design tools, and adapt to evolving priorities in a volunteer setting.
