Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Cape Town. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on engineer with strong mechanical design and drafting expertise who enjoys taking projects from concept through fabrication, installation, and commissioning within industrial and process environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems for water treatment and process plants
• Develop and update Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Produce General Arrangement (GA), manufacturing, fabrication, and pipework drawings
• Create 3D models and assembly drawings
• Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Provide technical support for procurement activities
• Assist fabrication teams by resolving workshop queries
• Conduct site measurements and prepare as-built drawings
• Support installation and commissioning activities
• Develop and maintain mechanical engineering standards

Requirements

• BEng, BTech, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• 3–8 years' experience in mechanical design
• Strong AutoCAD proficiency
• Experience with Inventor or SolidWorks will be advantageous
• Proven experience preparing manufacturing and fabrication drawings
• Good understanding of piping systems, valves, pumps, and process equipment
• Ability to develop and interpret P&IDs
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
• Willingness to travel to project sites when required

Industry Experience

Experience within water and wastewater treatment, process plants, mining, industrial manufacturing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, EPC, turnkey projects, or OEM equipment manufacturing will be highly advantageous.
