Enterprise Safety & Risk Officer

Salary: $72,501 – $82,855 based on qualifications

The City of Oshkosh is seeking a strategic and collaborative professional to serve as its next

Enterprise Safety & Risk Officer. This position leads citywide efforts to strengthen workplace safety, reduce organizational risk, support compliance, and promote a proactive culture of safety across municipal operations. In this role, you will help protect the City’s people, property, and public resources by advancing a proactive culture of safety and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

The Enterprise Safety & Risk Officer leads and coordinates citywide efforts related to occupational safety, risk assessment, claims management, loss control, and related compliance activities. This position works closely with leadership, supervisors, and staff across departments to identify exposures, reduce risk, support safe work practices, and promote long-term organizational effectiveness.

  • Lead and support citywide safety and risk management programs
  • Identify risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate safety training, inspections, audits, and policy development
  • Monitor compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards
  • Investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions
  • Support claims management, loss prevention, and return-to-work efforts
  • Analyze trends, maintain records, and prepare reports for leadership
  • Partner with departments to improve safe work practices and organizational resilience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, risk management, public administration, business administration, or a related field
  • Relevant professional experience in safety, risk management, insurance, claims, loss control, or a related area
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety principles, compliance requirements, and incident investigation
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in municipal or public sector operations
  • Professional certifications in safety or risk management
  • Experience with workers’ compensation, liability claims, and return-to-work programs
