Job Summary
Under the general supervision of Area Extension Officer, the incumbent is responsible for facilitation of identification and prioritisation of community problems through ALC; development of community action plan; facilitation of the implementation of community action plan; information dissemination; preparation of sub-sectional budget, coordination of sub-sectional activities.

- 1.1 Conducts campaigns pertaining to specific nutrition and home economics issues to create public awareness.
- 1.2 Guides the community in identifying their own problems to provide a basis for their own development programmes.
- 1.3 Guides the communities in prioritising their problems to give focus to their efforts.
- 1.4 Guides the communities in analysing their prioritised problems to identify the underlying causes to their problems.
- Development of Community Action Plan
- 2.1 Provides information on nutrition and home economics technologies to assist the community in finding solutions to their problems.
- 2.2 Guides the development of the community action plan in order to define roles, responsibilities, and targets.
- Facilitation of the Implementation of Community Action Plan
- 3.1 Produces recipes that are nutritionally balanced to improve the nutritional status of the community.
- 3.2 Modifies locally available recipes to improve their palatability, attractiveness, and nutritive value.
- 3.3 Conducts demonstrations on the produced and modified recipes to promote their consumption.
- 3.4 Interprets and converts measurements used in recipes so that they can be locally and easily used by the community.
- 3.5 Provides skills and technical expertise in food technology for the attainment of household food security.
- Promotion of Income Generating Activities
- 4.1 Sensitizes the community on business opportunities available to them within their environment to improve their livelihood.
- 4.2 Creates awareness on the importance of using locally available resources for cost-effective production.
- 4.3 Conducts market research to determine the commercial viability of the proposed activity.
- 4.4 Trains interested groups in producing a market offer with a unique selling proposition to equip them with the necessary skills and technical know-how.
- Information Dissemination
- 5.1 Participates in the preparation of radio programmes in the area of specialized to ensure that nutritional and home economics information is spread as widely as possible.
- 5.2 Sensitizes the community about possible threats to its nutritional status so they can take appropriate action measures.
- 5.3 Monitors discharged mal-nourished children from hospitals so as to give education to their parents to use balanced diets.
- 5.4 Educates mothers on mal-nourished children on balanced diet to improve their weight and nutritional status.
- 5.6 Provides technical expertise on breast-feeding management and growth monitoring for good pre-natal and post-natal care.
- 5.7 Designs and develops teaching aids for use by agricultural facilitators to promote efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of services.
- Preparation of the Sectional Budget
- 6.1 Prepares the overall sectional budget annually to ensure that all sectional programs and projects are funded accordingly and implemented smoothly.
- 6.2 Negotiates and justifies the horticultural crop research budget at the divisional budget discussions in order to secure the necessary funds to finance sectional activities.
- 6.3 Recommends the review of the sectional budget to the divisional head whenever the need arises to realign it with the changes in the sectional business plan to facilitate the implementation of the critical programs and activities within the section.
- Coordination of Sub-Sectional Activities
- 7.1 Liaises with other sub-sectional heads within and outside the resource centre to solicit support in the implementation of crops activities.
- 7.2 Convenes monthly meetings with sub-centre heads for planning and reporting in order to ensure integrated implementation of crops activities.
- 7.3 Liaises with stakeholders to sensitise them on sub-sectoral developments to facilitate consistency, mutual support, and synchronic implementation of crops programmes.

- 1.1 Education and training requirements: Diploma in Nutrition and Home Economics.
- 1.2 Experience: Three years (3) working experience for Certificate holders in nutrition and home economics related activities.

- 5.1 Mental effort: The job involves interpretation of recipes and pattern designing that may result in mental fatigue.

- 5.3 Emotional effort: The job requires the incumbent to have patience, tolerance and understanding during conflict resolution, and interaction with different people who may not be cooperative.
- Working Conditions
- 6.1 Unfavorable working conditions: The job requires the incumbent to occasionally work beyond normal working hours, during weekends and on public holidays. The incumbent may also be required to walk long distances on foot when doing household visits where there are no car roads and be exposed to extremely cold, hot, and rainy weather.
- 6.2 Hazards: The incumbent may be at risk of physical harm from nutrition and home economics activities. The incumbent may also be at risk of physical harm from snakebites when doing household visits.
