Senior Procurement Officer / Procurement Manager

One of our clients within the mining industry is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Procurement Officer / Procurement Manager to oversee and manage all procurement and supply chain activities for a large-scale mining operation. The position will be based in Boksburg, Gauteng, and will support both corporate procurement functions and operational mining requirements, including periodic engagement with site-based teams and project locations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Commerce, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (CIPS or equivalent) will be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years' procurement experience, with at least 5 years within the mining sector.
  • Proven experience in open-pit mining operations and/or large capital mining projects.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement systems and ERP platforms (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of mining supply chains, including explosives, heavy machinery, spare parts, fuel, and contractor services.
  • Experience in contract management, tender processes, and supplier negotiations.
  • Strong financial acumen with sound knowledge of cost control and budgeting.
  • Familiarity with African mining regulatory and procurement environments will be advantageous

Duties and Responsibilities

Procurement Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with operational and project requirements.
  • Align procurement activities with production schedules and capital project timelines.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive value engineering initiatives.

Supplier & Contract Management

  • Source, evaluate, and maintain a database of approved suppliers and contractors.
  • Lead tender processes, RFQs, and RFIs in accordance with governance and compliance requirements.
  • Negotiate pricing, service level agreements, and long-term supply contracts.
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure adherence to contractual obligations.

Operational Procurement

  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process for mining equipment, consumables, spare parts, and services.
  • Ensure timely procurement to support uninterrupted mining operations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to forecast procurement requirements.

Cost Control & Budget Management

  • Support budgeting processes and ensure procurement expenditure remains within approved budgets.
  • Track, analyse, and report on procurement expenditure and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Implement cost control measures without compromising operational efficiency.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, mining regulations, and ethical sourcing standards.
  • Mitigate supply chain risks, including supplier dependency and market volatility.
  • Maintain audit-ready procurement documentation and reporting.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including operations, engineering, finance, and project teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and service providers.
  • Provide procurement insights and recommendations to support strategic business decision-making.
