Systems Control Technician
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic
Systems Control Technician in our Springs Plant, reporting to the Electrical Business Partner
The Systems Control is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing industrial automation and control systems. This role includes managing Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure, ensuring cybersecurity compliance, supporting plant operations, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across processing, utilities, and packaging systems.
A Taste Of What You’ll Be Doing
Control Systems & Automation
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC systems (Rockwell Automation, Schneider, Omron)
- Perform PLC backups, maintenance, and minor program adjustments
- Manage SCADA & HMI systems (Wonderware InTouch, PanelView, Omron, Schneider), including backups and maintenance
- Troubleshoot and maintain VSDs, servo drives, soft starters, star-delta, and direct online systems
- Maintain and back up industrial historians (Canary Historian, FLOW, PME)
- Support project teams during design, execution, commissioning, and system integration
- Support project teams during project planning, execution, commissioning, and seamless integration into existing control systems
Operational Technology (OT) & IT/OT Integration
- Ensure OT cybersecurity compliance and implementation of best practices
- Manage OT servers (installation, maintenance, patching, and backup)
- Administer OT networks, including switches and communication systems
- Standardize OT systems to reduce maintenance complexity and spare parts holding
- Manage obsolete equipment (PLCs, SCADA, servers, network switches) and drive replacement strategies
Compliance, Standards & Governance
Ensure CCP (Critical Control Points) compliance and system availability at all times
Support QFS (Quality Food Safety) and EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) standards
Align with regional PCIS (Process Control & Information Systems) requirements
Support RM and AM COEs (Centres of Excellence) to ensure KWS phase progress
Instrumentation & Electrical Systems
- Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation (4–20mA, HART, IO-Link devices)
- Provide expertise in electrical systems and motor control circuits
- Perform calibration and fault finding on sensors, transmitters, and actuators
Maintenance & Operations Support
- Support shift electricians and millwrights with daily operational issues
- Provide standby and after-hours technical support
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions
- Improve plant efficiency, reliability, and uptime
Plant Systems & Process Support
- Work across utilities, processing lines, packaging lines, and palletizers
- Monitor and optimize plant performance through control system improvements
- Use tools such as Rockwell Asset Centre for system management and backups
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills (Rockwell, Schneider, Omron)
- SCADA/HMI system expertise
- Knowledge of OT cybersecurity and network administration
- Experience with industrial communication protocols and networks
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings and control schematics
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, or related field
- Experience with industrial automation systems (3–5+ years preferred)
