Our client, an owner-managed Destination Management Company that provides selective services in East Africa in the Island in the Indian Ocean and specializes in the whole of Southern Africa is looking to hire a Finance Controller (new position).

Role Overview

The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial health of the business, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls, and supplier payments, and revenue recognition in a fast-paced DMC environment.

This role works closely with Operations, Sales, and Management to ensure financial processes support the delivery of high-quality travel services.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Monitor profitability across FIT, Groups, and MICE segments
  • Ensure accurate revenue and cost recognition per booking/project

Accounts Payable & Supplier Management

  • Oversee supplier payments (local & international)
  • Ensure correct reconciliation of supplier invoices vs bookings
  • Manage payment timelines aligned with cash flow
  • Handle complex multi-currency payments

Accounts Receivable & Cash Flow

  • Monitor debtor balances and agent payments
  • Ensure timely invoicing and collections from partners

Cost Control & Margin Management

  • Monitor margins per file / itinerary
  • Identify discrepancies between quoted and actual costs
  • Work closely with operations to improve cost efficiency

Systems & Process Optimisation

  • Maintain and optimise accounting systems (Xero)
  • Improve financial workflows between operations and finance

Key Requirements

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or similar
  • Proven experience as Financial Controller or Senior Accountant
  • Experience in travel, tourism, or DMC environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of multi-currency environments
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage complexity
  • Strong systems and process mindset
