Mining Learnership Programme

The mining Learnership Programme provides participants with an extensive training experience in various technical fields, including diesel mechanics, boiler making, fitting and turning, and instrumentation. On successful completion, learners will obtain qualifications that enhance their career prospects both within Implats and the broader mining sector.
Career Resources & PlanningParticipants in the Learnership Programme will:
- Undergo rigorous training in various artisan trades, including diesel mechanics, boiler making, fitting and turning, and instrumentation.
- Work under the supervision of qualified artisans, gaining practical, hands-on experience in mining-related activities.
- Participate in theoretical and practical assessments to evaluate progress and skills acquisition.
- Complete health and safety training to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Contribute to the smooth operation of mining processes and learn to maintain and repair mining equipment.
- Engage in continuous learning through workshops, on-the-job training, and mentorship programs.
To be eligible for the Learnership Programme, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A Matric certificate or an NQF Level qualification from a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college.
- A medical clearance certificate confirming suitability for the programme.
- Strong communication skills.
- Previous work experience is not required; however, a strong interest in the mining sector is essential.
- Candidates should be from historically disadvantaged backgrounds, with the majority falling between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
- The opportunity to gain a nationally recognized qualification in various technical fields related to mining.
- Hands-on, practical experience working with experts in the mining industry.
- A pathway to permanent employment with Implats or other mining companies upon completion of the programme.
- The chance to contribute to reducing youth unemployment and addressing the skills gap within the South African mining sector.
