Your Role

As Manager – Site Logistics, you will be responsible for leading and optimising all logistics and transportation activities at your assigned site(s). You will ensure the safe, efficient and cost-effective movement, storage and distribution of products while maintaining compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements and industry standards. Working closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Customer Service and 3PL’s, you will drive operational excellence, continuous improvement and service delivery to support Brenntag South Africa's business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all logistics and transportation activities for the assigned site(s).
  • Ensure efficient, safe and compliant receipt, storage and distribution of products.
  • Implement Brenntag logistics, transportation and operational policies, procedures and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, environmental and safety regulations relating to transport and logistics.
  • Coordinate daily transport operations to ensure on-time customer deliveries.
  • Manage relationships with transport service providers to achieve service level expectations.
  • Negotiate freight rates and transportation agreements in line with company procurement guidelines.
  • Monitor transport performance, costs and service quality to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Develop and implement logistics sourcing, transport and network optimisation strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve logistics efficiency, reduce costs and enhance customer service.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across logistics operations.
  • Monitor logistics performance through relevant KPIs and recommend corrective actions where required.
  • Lead, coach and develop logistics personnel and operators.
  • Promote a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality and customer service.
  • Manage employee performance, training and succession planning within the logistics team.
  • Foster collaboration across Operations, Commercial, Customer Service and Supply Chain teams.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and dangerous goods regulations.
  • Support site audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to Brenntag Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company policies.
  • Prepare logistics performance reports and operational dashboards.
  • Monitor freight costs, logistics budgets and operational expenditure.
  • Support business projects relating to supply chain optimisation and operational expansion.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple transport providers and customer deliveries, ensuring timely resolution of operational issues, including after-hours support when necessary.
  • Ensuring 3PL’s are compliant with Brenntag HSE standards and requirements.
  • Must be able to travel Locally and Internationally as required.

You are commercially aware, analytical and able to manage multiple priorities while leading teams and driving continuous improvement. You thrive in a fast-paced distribution environment and enjoy collaborating across functions to improve operational performance and customer satisfaction.

Experience

  • 5–8 years' experience in Logistics, Transportation or Supply Chain Management within the chemical, manufacturing or distribution industries.
  • Demonstrated experience managing transport operations and third-party logistics providers.
  • Proven experience negotiating freight contracts and managing logistics costs.
  • Strong knowledge of warehousing, transport planning and inventory management.
  • Experience leading operational teams in a safety-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of dangerous goods transportation and relevant logistics legislation will be advantageous.
  • Advanced SAP and Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.

Education

  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, Operations Management, Business Management or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations or Business Management, preferred.
  • Relevant professional logistics or supply chain certifications will be advantageous.
