The Senior IT Technici an is responsible for the installation, administration, maintenance, and support of the organisation's IT infrastructure, including servers, virtualisation platforms, network equipment, firewalls, and end-user systems. The incumbent will ensure the availability, security, and performance of IT systems while providing advanced technical support and mentoring junior technical staff

Main Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments.
- Administer VMware virtualisation infrastructure, including the creation, configuration, migration, and maintenance of virtual machines.
- Monitor server health, performance, storage, and system availability.
- Perform system upgrades, patches, and firmware updates.
Network Administration
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.
- Install and support network switches, routers, and associated networking equipment.
- Monitor network performance and recommend improvements.
Firewall and Security Management
- Configure, manage, and maintain enterprise firewall solutions.
- Implement and maintain firewall security policies, VPN connectivity, NAT rules, and access control lists.
- Monitor network security, investigate security incidents, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain endpoint security and antivirus solutions.
Technical Support
- Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support to users.
- Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues.
- Support Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Assist with disaster recovery planning and business continuity procedures.
Systems Administration
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and security groups.
- Perform regular backups and restoration testing.
- Maintain system documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure compliance with organisational IT policies and security standards.
Project Support
- Participate in IT infrastructure projects and system implementations.
- Assist with technology upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
- Provide technical guidance to junior IT personnel.
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric
- Valid Code B Driver’s licence.
- Relevant National Diploma or a degree in Information Technology or Computer Systems.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in an IT infrastructure support role.
- Proven experience administering VMware virtualisation environments.
- Experience configuring and managing enterprise firewalls.
- Experience supporting Windows Server environments and Microsoft technologies.
- Experience in network administration and troubleshooting.
- Willingness to travel between organisational sites when required.
- Availability to provide after-hours support and participate in an on-call roster when necessary.
Desirable Certification
- Microsoft Certified (Windows Server or Azure)
- Fortinet NSE / FCP
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
