Job Overview

The Sea Freight Assistant / Sea Freight Coordinator is responsible for the efficient coordination and administration of import and export sea freight shipments. The role ensures that all shipments are processed accurately, compliantly, and within customer and operational requirements.

The incumbent will support daily sea freight operations by managing documentation, coordinating with shipping lines, customers, customs brokers, and internal departments, while maintaining high levels of customer service and operational efficiency. The role requires strong operational knowledge, commercial awareness, and the ability to resolve routine operational challenges.

POSITION INFO

Minimum Requirements: Tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, Freight Forwarding, or a related field (advantageous). Valid driver's licence. 3-5 years' experience in sea freight import and export operations. Logistics or freight forwarding experience is critical Working knowledge of sea freight documentation and shipping processes. Experience preparing freight quotations. Basic customs and international trade knowledge. Existing relationships with shipping lines would be advantageous. Cross-trade shipment experience will be beneficial. Good commercial awareness. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel - must be comfortable with formulas, VLOOKUPs, and general reporting functions). Experience using freight forwarding systems (Shipshape, Cargowize etc). Key Responsibilities: Provide administrative support to the sea freight supervisor in the coordination of import and export sea freight shipments. Prepare and process shipment documentation accurately and within required deadlines. Capture and maintain accurate shipment information within the freight management system. Assist with booking cargo with shipping lines, carriers, and service providers. Monitor shipment milestones and provide updates to the Supervisor on any operational issues or delays. Provide operational support to Sales with routing, transit times, and pricing input. Assist with preparing customer quotations and rate requests. Assist in ensuring shipments comply with Incoterms, customs requirements, and company procedures. Verify the accuracy of shipping documentation before submission. Maintain compliance with company policies and applicable shipping regulations. Assist with accurate shipment costing and invoicing. Verify supplier invoices against agreed rates. Report discrepancies or additional charges to the supervisor. Provide general administrative support to the sea freight department. Maintain filing systems and shipment records. Assist with departmental reporting and operational administration as required. Email CVs to:
