Role Description
The Business Developer: Smart Homes is a localised sales role based at one of our branches, responsible for managing a sales pipeline from first contact to close, converting leads into sales, and building strong relationships with resellers and customers in that region. The role requires becoming a product expert in the IoT and smart home space and driving new business in a market moving fast from luxury to standard, across homes, estates, and commercial buildings. The role offers a basic package with a strong commission structure.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage a sales pipeline from first contact to close, keeping it healthy and moving.
- Convert leads into sales by understanding customer needs and matching them to the right solutions.
- Canvass and prospect for new business in the electrical, lighting and IoT / smart home sectors, including business development within the region of responsibility.
- Visit customers and potential customers to evaluate needs and promote products and services.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with prospective customers, and prepare and submit sales quotes, contracts and agreements. Help determine pricing schedules for quotes, promotions, and negotiations.
- Conduct product and solution training sessions and sales presentations for resellers and prospective customers in the region. Close deals and meet and exceed agreed sales targets.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with resellers, customers and key accounts throughout the region.
- Answer customer questions about credit terms, products, prices and availability.
- Prepare and submit periodic (weekly and monthly) reports on sales activity, pipeline status, and other occurrences.
- Coordinate sales efforts with the Company’s marketing programmes and campaigns.
- Maintain accurate customer and lead records within Company systems. Obtain deposits and balance of payment from customers.
- Monitor market trends, fluctuations and competitor activity within the smart home and IoT sectors, and stay current through industry publications, conferences and seminars.
- Ensure confidentiality when handling customer data and personal information.
- Support company-wide initiatives to improve service levels to customers, applying a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities to improve processes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
- At least 3–5 years’ proven sales experience (experience in the electrical, lighting or networking / IoT field is a strong advantage).
- A dynamic, self-motivated sales professional with a hunter’s mindset.
- A confident communicator who can present, train, and build rapport with resellers and customers.
- A valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
- A resident of or willing to relocate to the relevant branch region.
- A winning attitude, resilience, and a genuine drive to earn.
- Results-oriented with strong attention to detail.
