Senior Cost Engineer

Our client is a proudly South African construction company with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality engineering and infrastructure projects. As they continue to expand their footprint within the energy sector, they are urgently seeking an experienced Senior Cost Engineer / Cost Estimate Assurance Specialist to join their growing team in Durban.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially astute professional to play a pivotal role in the success of major capital projects by ensuring cost estimates are accurate, auditable, risk-adjusted and aligned with industry best practice.

• Review cost estimate maturity and ensure alignment with project lifecycle stages
• Evaluate estimate methodologies, cost build-ups, assumptions, exclusions and supporting data
• Develop and review comprehensive Basis of Estimate documentation
• Assess base costs, owner's costs, contingencies, escalation and risk allowances
• Review cost phasing and alignment with project schedules and execution strategies
• Support cost-to-completion assessments and forecasting

• Degree in Cost Engineering, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Project Management, Finance or a related discipline
• 8–12+ years' experience in cost engineering, cost estimating or estimate assurance on major capital projects within the construction industry
• Proven experience within the energy sector including power generation, utilities, transmission & distribution, renewable energy, industrial energy facilities, brownfield energy projects and plant upgrades & outage programmes
• Strong understanding of estimate classification systems and Basis of Estimate development
• Experience with contingency analysis, escalation modelling and cost risk assessments
• Knowledge of EPC and EPCM project delivery models will be advantageous
