We are looking for someone that has the experience of maize trading on Safex (not a marketing person at agricultural co-op) - Daily analises of price movement in grain market is essential - includes mielies, legumes, sugarbeans, split peas, lentils, ets.
Must be willing to relocate to a small town in North West
A growing maize milling company with an established brand situated in the North West, seeks to appoint an experienced campaigner to fill the above position.
The incumbent will report to the Chief Executive Officer.
The purpose of the job is to ensure that all grain procurement is done to maximize returns while maintaining competitive pricing, managing transactions to follow company risk management strategies, ensuring sustainable supply of grain to the business.
Develop and implement grain procurement strategies and pricing models
Analyse grain market trends, as well as seasonal and geographical market characteristics
Do forecasting
Cost efficient procurement of grain
Networking and negotiating contracts with suppliers
Safex trading
Risk management
Predict and capture opportunities in future markets, while limiting risk exposure.
Liaising and establishing long term relationships with role players in the industry.
B-degree in Agriculture, or related qualification
In-depth knowledge of and at least 8 years’ relevant experience of the maize industry
Strategic thinking
Analytical abilities
Knowledge of supply-demand economics
Ability to negotiate favourable contracts
Ability to respect market directions and handle the pressure of market positions.
Knowledge of Safex trading
Ability to establish sound relationships with role players in the industry
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science (B.Sc) Agric, B. Agric, Commerce (B.Comm) or similar tertiary qualification
- A major subject in Agricultural Economics, Economics or Risk Management is preferred
- Qualification as a SAFEX broker
- If not already SAFEX broker qualified, candidates must commit to completing the SAFEX brokerage exam within a reasonable time frame
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. both English and Afrikaans
- Must have a valid driver’s licence
