MANAGER / HEAD

Durbanville Child and Youth Care Centre

Durbanville Child and Youth Care Centre is a dynamic programme of Badisa and is looking for a visionary, passionate and experienced Manager to join the team. The main objective of this position is to lead the centre through purposeful planning, coordination and management in order to create a safe, professional and nurturing haven for traumatised children.

Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant B degree or postgraduate qualification in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or a relevant social science. An additional management qualification is highly recommended.
  • At least five (5) years’ proven management experience at a senior level, preferably in the sector for Non-profit Organisations or at a residential child and youth care facility.
  • Financial literacy and practical experience with the preparation and management of budgets, as well as the monitoring of expenditure and assets.
  • Legal compliance, including written proof of clearance on the National Child Protection Register (Form 30) and a SAPS police clearance (no criminal record).
  • Excellent communication skills in Afrikaans and English. A valid driver's licence is a requirement.

Core Responsibilities (KPAs)

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following core areas as contained in the official KPA document:

  • Program management and management of professional services.
  • Human resource management and management of discipline.
  • Financial management, asset management and inventory management.
  • Liaison, communication, marketing and fundraising.
  • Administration, research and organisational development.
  • Representation (internal and external).

  • Vision and transformational leadership with the necessary strategic insight to keep the organisation relevant and successfully navigate staff through processes of change.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate team building in order to cultivate a loyal, inspired workforce and culture.
  • Deep-rooted empathy, involvement and passion for the holistic care of traumatized children.
  • Excellent communicator with good interpersonal relationships, and the ability to meaningfully engage with the Board of Directors, donors, Department of Social Development, and the community.
  • The ability to handle conflict and discipline consistently, fairly and calmly for the orderly management of the DCYCC.
  • Analytical thinking skills and a commitment to continuous self-development and improvement by staying abreast of the latest relevant literature.
  • A creative and innovative thinker who proactively identifies challenges and develops effective solutions.
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure and handle challenging situations professionally and with self-control.
  • High level of self-discipline, accountability and impeccable personal integrity.
  • Commitment to maintaining sound management principles, high ethical standards and the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Proven ability to identify new sources of funding, develop donor relationships and foster strategic partnerships.
