Our client, a global manufacturer with a strong presence in South Africa, is seeking an accomplished Sales and New Business Development Leader to drive their commercial strategy and growth across Sub-Saharan Africa. This is a senior, P&L-owning role for a commercially astute leader who thrives on building teams, opening new markets, and negotiating high-value partnerships.
About the Role
Reporting into the Regional MD, you’ll take ownership of the regional topline P&L, leading a sales and new business across Sub-Saharan Africa. You’ll shape and execute the Africa commercial strategy, optimise route-to-market models, and ensure disciplined commercial execution aligned to Group objectives — working closely with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Technical / Product teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and execute the Africa commercial strategy
- Deliver regional targets for volume, revenue, and gross margin, with strong pricing discipline
- Build and manage robust forecasting and pipeline visibility
- Optimise distribution structures, balancing direct vs. distributor models for profitability and reach
- Personally manage key strategic customer relationships and lead major negotiations
- Lead, coach, and develop the regional sales team, building capability and succession pipelines
- Collaborate cross-functionally
- Drive consistent use of CRM, forecasting, and reporting tools, and embed best-practice sales processes
What You’ll Need
A degree in Business, Science, Engineering, or a related field (a science / business degree, e.g. Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, is advantageous), at least 5 years’ successful sales / business development experience with a demonstrable track record of winning new business, along with a proven ability to identify and develop significant new business opportunities, with clear investment and strategy planning, as well as experience interpreting data to produce meaningful commercial outcomes. Willingness to undertake significant regional travel is essential.
