Role Purpose

Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for the Africa business, ensuring sustainable growth, strong product market fit, and disciplined value creation across multiple African markets. The role integrates strategy, product, distribution, operations, technology, risk, and people to deliver fit for country Life solutions aligned to Group objectives while responding to regional market dynamics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Commerce, Business, Finance or related field (essential)
  • Postgraduate qualification in Strategy, Leadership or related disciplines (essential)
  • 8+ years experience at executive management level (essential)
  • 5 - 8 years experience in the Insurance and/ or finance industry (desirable)

Duties & Responsibilities

Process

  • Define and execute the long-term strategy for Momentum Africa, aligned to Group and Africa priorities.
  • Integrate product strategy, distribution execution, operations, technology, and risk into a coherent value chain.
  • Oversee delivery of scalable operating models, fit for purpose systems (including PAS), and operational resilience across markets.
  • Ensure disciplined execution of strategic initiatives, transformation programmes, and market expansions.
  • Translate strategy into measurable outcomes across financial, operational, and people dimensions.

Client & Market Focus

  • Ensure Life products and propositions are fit for country, client relevant, and competitively positioned within local markets.
  • Champion client value and service excellence across the full Life customer journey.
  • Anticipate market shifts, regulatory changes, and consumer trends to shape proactive strategic responses.
  • Strengthen the Africa Life brand, reputation, and market credibility.

People & Team Leadership

  • Build, lead, and align a high performing Africa Life executive team.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, ethical leadership, and performance.
  • Develop leadership capability, succession pipelines, and organisational bench strength.
  • Lead people through complexity, transformation, and growth.

Finance

  • Hold end to end accountability for Africa Life financial performance and sustainability.
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and capital allocation.
  • Ensure product level profitability, cost discipline, and value based decision making across markets.
  • Partner with Finance and Actuarial leaders to interpret financial drivers and inform strategy.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Engage effectively with boards, regulators, shareholders, partners, and Group leadership.
  • Represent Africa Life in executive, regulatory, and external forums with credibility and authority.
  • Align diverse internal stakeholders across geographies around shared strategic priorities.
  • Build trusted relationships that support business continuity, growth, and reputation.
