Business Development Manager - Air and Sea

Our client, a well-established and fast-growing international freight forwarding company, is looking for a driven Business Development Manager – Air & Sea to join their commercial team in Johannesburg.
This is an excellent opportunity for a results-oriented sales professional with experience in airfreight and seafreight to take ownership of new business development, grow a strong existing client base, and play a key role in the company’s continued expansion in Southern Africa.
We are looking for a driven, well-connected Business Development Manager to grow our airfreight and seafreight business. The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring new clients, expanding existing accounts, and consistently achieving ambitious revenue targets in a competitive logistics market.
- Proactively identify, qualify and convert new business opportunities in airfreight and seafreight services
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with decision-makers across import, export, manufacturing and retail sectors
- Prepare competitive, professional quotations, proposals and tender submissions
- Achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets and KPIs
- Conduct regular client visits, presentations and business entertainment within approved budget
- Collaborate closely with operations, pricing and customer service teams to deliver tailored client solutions
- Maintain accurate CRM records, sales pipeline and forecasting
- Represent the company professionally at industry events, trade shows and networking functions
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity and pricing movements
- Provide regular, accurate sales reports and market intelligence to senior management
- Minimum 3–5 years’ proven experience in freight forwarding sales / business development (air & sea)
- Demonstrated track record of consistently achieving and exceeding sales targets
- Strong existing network and relationships within the South African import/export and logistics community
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills with strong negotiation and closing ability
- Sound working knowledge of Incoterms, shipping documentation and basic customs procedures
- Self-motivated, target-driven and comfortable working independently
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport
- Matric essential; tertiary qualification in Sales, Marketing, Logistics or Business advantageous
