Road Patrols are responsible for diagnosing and identifying vehicle issues on-site, performing roadside repairs when feasible, and coordinating recovery efforts such as towing if immediate repairs aren’t possible. They also provide members with reassurance, safety advice, and updates throughout the process. Equipped with specialized tools and training, these officers can handle a wide array of vehicle problems, from flat batteries and tire punctures to more complex engine or electrical issues.

  • Assisting AA members who have broken down at the roadside in all areas (urban and rural) and carrying out minor emergency roadside repairs, or alternatively arranging an AA towing truck or an AAQA recovery service provider to have the vehicle towed.
  • Where required, sell batteries to members, when current battery is faulty and/or out of warranty.
  • Rendering other vehicle related assistance to members where appropriate.
  • Ensuring that tools and equipment are in good serviceable condition and reporting faulty items to the Team Leaders or Regional Manager.
  • Safekeeping the vehicle, tools and equipment.
  • Ensuring that all administrative duties are carried out correctly and timeously.
  • Maintaining a presentable image to the public at all times.
  • Upholding the AA brand by observing the required driving behaviour at all times.
  • Any other related duties as required by the Team Leader and/or Regional Manager from time to time.

Education

  • Motor Mechanical or Auto Electrical qualification, or an equivalent such as an N Certificate.

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in vehicle diagnostics.
  • Previous exposure to a sales‑driven environment will be advantageous.
  • An advanced driving certificate will be an added advantage.

Other

  • A valid Code C1 (10) or Code EC/EC1 (14) driver’s licence is essential.
  • A valid PDP will be beneficial.
  • Willingness to work shifts as required in line with operational needs.
