An exciting leadership opportunity is available for an experienced NICU Unit Manager to lead a high-performing neonatal team in KwaZulu-Natal. This role is suited to a passionate nursing leader with strong neonatal critical care expertise who is committed to delivering exceptional clinical outcomes, driving quality improvement initiatives, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care within a private healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes.
  • Deliver cost-effective, quality patient care in line with clinical governance principles.
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention protocols and international standard precautions.
  • Implement and drive quality improvement initiatives within the unit.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding their care.
  • Function as the clinical expert to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Ensure the competence of nursing staff and students by promoting professional development, creating a learning environment, and providing constructive feedback to relevant stakeholders.
  • Promote customer satisfaction within the unit by addressing complaints, conducting quality care rounds, and performing clinical practice audits to monitor standards of care.
  • Identify clinical and patient safety risks and trends, implement corrective actions where necessary, and monitor outcomes on an ongoing basis.
  • Initiate and drive unit-specific best operating practices, communicate these for broader implementation, and participate in hospital-specific marketing initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Diploma or Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Post Basic qualification in Advanced Midwifery & Neonatal Nursing or Critical Care Nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years' NICU experience, including experience in a Shift Leader or Management role.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and PALS certification.
  • Sound knowledge of Department of Health (DoH) and OHSC standards is essential.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain high clinical standards and lead a multidisciplinary team effectively.
  • Computer literacy will be advantageous.
