Role Description
The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Tzaneen. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local regulations and company standards.
Day-to-day tasks include conducting workplace risk assessments, overseeing safety inspections, leading accident investigations, and coordinating corrective and preventive actions.
The EHS Manager will organize and deliver training programs for employees, maintain EHS documentation and reporting, and collaborate with operations leads to integrate environmental and health considerations into daily timber activities.
The role also involves engaging with external regulatory bodies and auditors, promoting a culture of safety, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Relevant bachelor’s degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in EHS or Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, or equivalent) are beneficial.
- Candidates should possess strong Environment Health and Safety (EHS) and general Health & Safety skills, with experience implementing EHS management systems.
- Candidates should possess expertise in Occupational Health practices, including risk assessment, workplace ergonomics, and health surveillance.
- Candidates should possess skills in Accident Investigation, including root cause analysis, incident reporting, and corrective action planning.
- Candidates should possess training skills, including designing, delivering, and evaluating EHS training for diverse employee groups.
- Knowledge of South African EHS legislation and standards, particularly within forestry, timber, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and documentation skills, with proficiency in common office and EHS software tools.
- Proven ability to work on-site in an operational setting, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and communicate clearly at all organizational levels.
