Position Details

Job Title: Public Relations Manager

Grade: I

Number of Positions: One (1)

Responsible To: Director Public Relations

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director Public Relations, the incumbent is responsible for undertaking Public Relations research to inform policy; designing and developing public relations policies and government communication strategy; managing departmental budgets and supervising subordinate staff.

Key Duties

Public Relations Research and Policy Development

  • Participate in research consultations and study tours.
  • Analyse documents, policies, plans, and information gathered during consultations and study tours.
  • Draft reports on consultation and study tour findings.

Public Relations Policies and Government Communication Strategy

  • Conduct government public relations cadre needs assessment surveys.
  • Conduct stakeholder analysis and mapping.
  • Facilitate workshops on public relations policy and communication strategy development.
  • Compile public relations policy and communication strategy drafts.
  • Compile reports on public relations policy and communication strategy development workshops.

Implementation and Coordination

  • Participate in sensitisation of public relations officers on public relations policies and government communication strategy.
  • Plan implementation of public relations policies and government communication strategy.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation plans.
  • Monitor progress and compile reports.
  • Evaluate policy impact and compile reports.
  • Coordinate public relations activities across ministries.
  • Arrange Public Relations meetings and events.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, or Media Studies with a minimum of six (6) years’ experience in public relations and at least two (2) years as a Senior Public Relations Officer.

OR

  • Honours Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, or Media Studies with eight (8) years’ experience in public relations and at least three (3) years as a Senior Public Relations Officer.
