POSITION INFO

Minimum Qualification: BEng / BSc Eng / BTech / Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent recognised qualification. Preferred Qualification: Postgraduate qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Asset Management, Project Management, Water Engineering or a related field will be an added advantage. Required professional registration: Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng). Minimum Experience: Minimum 5 years' relevant post-qualification experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in water or wastewater treatment, bulk water, pump stations, treatment works, municipal/public utility infrastructure or industrial process plant environments Practical experience in condition assessment, design review, specifications development, project implementation, commissioning support and maintenance/operational interface is required Key Outputs: Reporting to the Senior Manager: Planning & Design , the employee will: Asset planning, condition assessment and lifecycle optimisation Undertake asset condition assessments, reliability reviews, root-cause input, remaining useful life evaluations and risk-based prioritisation for mechanical plant and equipment. Mechanical design, specifications and technical governance Prepare, review and approve technical specifications, design criteria, drawings, equipment schedules, scope documents and bill of quantities inputs for mechanical works Engineering support to operations, maintenance and projects Provide specialist mechanical support to Planning and Development, Engineering and Maintenance, Operations and other business units on plant performance, fault investigations, shutdown planning and improvement initiatives Statutory, OHS and SOP compliance Promote compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, organisational safety standards, legal appointments and permit-to-work requirements relevant to plant and assets under control. Project and people contribution Manage allocated OPEX and minor capital projects from initiation, planning, scheduling and budgeting through implementation, commissioning, close-out and benefit realisation, subject to delegated authority Key Competencies: Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, risk assessment practices, legal appointments and contractor management requirements Knowledge of water sector legislation, compulsory water and sanitation service standards, environmental compliance requirements and relevant engineering codes and standards Knowledge of asset management principles, lifecycle costing, reliability improvement, maintenance planning and continuous improvement methodologies Knowledge of public sector procurement, contract administration, Supply Chain Management processes and the PFMA or equivalent governance requirements applicable to the organisation Working knowledge of labour relations good practice, performance management, disciplinary and grievance principles, employment equity and skills development requirements applicable to supervising staff in South Africa Computer literacy, including spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, CMMS/EAM systems and relevant design/modelling software Valid unendorsed driver's license and willingness to travel to plants and project sites as required Employment Equity Target: Preference will be given to females
