Job Title: Senior Grower

Reports To: Cultivation Management

Number of Positions: Three (03)

Role Purpose

The Senior Grower will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day cultivation activities, including crop protection, husbandry, harvesting, and maintaining the highest quality control standards across all production areas.

This role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate teams to achieve consistent crop quality, productivity, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise cultivation teams responsible for crop husbandry, harvesting, crop protection, sanitation, and general production activities.
  • Ensure all crop work is completed according to approved procedures, schedules, and quality expectations.
  • Monitor plant health, identify pest, disease, or environmental issues, and coordinate timely corrective actions with Cultivation Management.
  • Maintain a high level of discipline, professionalism, and accountability within all cultivation teams.
  • Ensure all employees consistently comply with company policies, workplace rules, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Lead by example in demonstrating punctuality, professionalism, and adherence to company standards.
  • Ensure all cultivation, crop protection, husbandry, harvesting, sanitation, and quality control activities are performed in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct regular monitoring and audits to verify compliance with SOPs, quality standards, and biosecurity requirements.
  • Identify non-conformances, implement corrective actions, and provide coaching or retraining where required.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by reviewing procedures and recommending operational enhancements where appropriate.
  • Ensure all staff receive adequate training and are competent in the SOPs relevant to their duties.
  • Maintain accurate records of training, performance, disciplinary matters, and SOP compliance.
  • Escalate recurring performance, conduct, or compliance issues to Cultivation Management and assist in implementing corrective measures.

Additional Competency Requirements

  • Strong understanding of workplace discipline, staff management, and SOP implementation.
  • Ability to enforce standards consistently while maintaining positive working relationships and team morale.
  • Maintain high standards of crop protection by supporting integrated pest management practices, hygiene protocols, and preventative crop care.
  • Oversee harvesting activities to ensure products are handled correctly, harvested at the correct maturity stage, and delivered according to quality requirements.
  • Maintain the highest quality control standards by inspecting work areas, reviewing crop condition, and ensuring staff follow approved quality procedures.
  • Train, guide, and support team members to improve technical skills, work discipline, productivity, and adherence to company standards.
  • Ensure accurate completion of production records, crop observations, task reports, and quality control documentation.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure staff comply with health, safety, biosecurity, and hygiene requirements.
  • Communicate clearly with Cultivation Management regarding crop performance, labour needs, operational risks, and improvement opportunities.

Required Skills And Competencies

  • Strong practical knowledge of agriculture, hydroponics, crop husbandry, harvesting, and crop protection.
  • Ability to lead large teams in a structured, professional, and productive manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail, especially in relation to crop quality, hygiene, and quality control standards.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to report clearly to management.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and the confidence to respond quickly to crop or operational challenges.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy, discipline, and consistency.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork, and high production standards.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on senior cultivation professional who can combine strong technical crop knowledge with effective people management.

This individual must be reliable, disciplined, quality-focused, and capable of ensuring that all cultivation activities are completed to a high standard while supporting the overall goals of the cultivation department.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Diploma in Agriculture or an equivalent agricultural qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ practical experience in agriculture, horticulture, hydroponics, or a related cultivation environment.
