PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Tier 3 Infrastructure Engineer provides advanced technical support and expertise in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex IT infrastructure systems. This role involves managing high-level escalations, performing root cause analysis, and implementing solutions for network, server, and storage issues. The engineer will design, deploy, and support infrastructure solutions, ensuring system availability, security, and performance. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement upgrades, support cloud and on-premise systems, and contribute to infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge in networking, virtualization, and enterprise-level systems is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Providing L2-L3 administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance across

  • Fortinet Firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN, Security appliances & Cloud Security.
  • Routing, Switching and Wireless networking.
  • VMware vCenter and Hyper-V Hypervisors.
  • Server Hardware and components.
  • Storage Infrastructure (SAN and vSAN).
  • Linux / Windows Systems Administration.
  • Active Directory / Identity Management Administration.
  • Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud computing.
  • Network & Systems Monitoring.

Operational Security & Project Execution

  • Managing/maintaining security infrastructure and toolsets, such as Firewalls, Networking equipment, Vulnerability Management systems, SIEM, etc.
  • Assisting with IT & Security related projects, rollouts and infrastructure maintenance, including Backups (VEEAM), Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery.
  • Maintaining / improving the security of IT systems through proactive monitoring and event management.
  • Analysing / triaging security events and alarms detected by the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system.
  • Responding to security incidents / threats logged on the service desk and remediating / mitigating where necessary.
  • Actioning requests relating to Network, Security & Hyper-V Infrastructure logged on the service desk.
  • Assisting with other System Administration as needed.
  • Staying up to date with industry trends around cybersecurity and providing input to business regarding improvements, innovations and best practices.
  • Assisting with designing, implementing and managing endpoint management and security solutions, i.e. Anti-malware, Antivirus systems, and Mobile Device Management.
  • Automation of repetitive tasks.
  • Providing technical input into company IT security standards and best practices in alignment with industry recognized standards such as ISO27001 and SOC 2.
  • Developing / maintaining security safeguards around the organisation's cloud footprint.
  • Training and upskilling junior staff.

Job Requirements & Technical Competencies

Preferred Education and Certifications (Verbatim Baseline)

  • Microsoft MCSE / Cisco CCNA / VMware
  • Linux / Azure / AWS / Google Cloud
  • EC Council CEH / Security + / CISSP
  • Fortinet FCP
  • Fortinet FCSS

Experience Prerequisites

  • 10+ years' experience within a Network & Security support environment working across network and server infrastructure both on-premise and in the Cloud.
  • Minimum of 5 years' core experience is explicitly required in the following frameworks:
    • Network administration and networking support experience for firewalls, switches, Wireless, (Fortigate & Cisco) and VPN client connections.
    • Windows 2012 and newer Server Administration and Active Directory / DNS / DHCP administration.
    • Linux administration.
    • Backup and recovery operations.
    • Prior System Administrator experience.
    • Proven ability to administer and configure Virtual environments.
