SUMMARY

The IT Systems and Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting an organisation's IT infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient business operations. The role manages servers, networks, cloud services, storage, cybersecurity, backups, and system performance, while troubleshooting technical issues, implementing upgrades, and ensuring the IT environment meets business, compliance, and security requirements.

POSITION INFO

Essential Requirements: Matric Certificate. Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, IS or related field (preferred). Additional professional certifications highly desirable. Minimum 5+ years' experience in IT. Experience in hybrid Exchange environments. Disaster recovery planning and testing experience. Endpoint management (Intune / RMM tools). Storage technologies (SAN/NAS). Security best practices & hardening. Strong experience with Microsoft 365 administration. Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure. Experience with on-prem Active Directory. Experience with virtualisation platforms (VMware or Hyper-V). Backup technologies (Veeam preferred). Networking fundamentals: VLAN configuration Layer 2/Layer 3 concepts Switch configuration Firewall basics Solid PowerShell skills (preferred). Excellent communication skills with an ability to translate complex technical jargon into understandable information for stakeholder. Key Performance Areas: Report to the IT Facilities Manager: Create users, assign licenses, manage groups. Configure MFA, Conditional Access policies. Manage mailboxes, shared mailboxes, distribution lists. Troubleshoot mail flow issues, spam filtering, retention policies. Set up Teams, channels, permissions. Manage SharePoint sites, storage, and document access. Data Loss Prevention (DLP), retention policies, audit logs. Password resets, access issues, Teams not working, mailbox quotas, etc. Configure VNets, subnets, NSGs (firewall rules), VPN gateways. Role-Based Access Control (RBAC). Use Defender for Cloud, monitor vulnerabilities, enforce policies. Sync users from on-prem AD to Microsoft 365. Troubleshoot sync issues (e.g. users not appearing in M365). Handle password writeback, SSO (Single Sign-On). Create and manage virtual machines. Allocate CPU, RAM, storage resources. Perform patching and upgrades of hypervisors. Troubleshoot VM issues (boot failures, resource contention). Configure backup jobs for: VMs File servers Microsoft 365 data Manage storage (backup repositories). Configure switch ports (access vs trunk). Create and manage VLANs (segmentation of networks). Assign devices to the correct VLANs (e.g. servers, users, VoIP). Basic firewall configuration (rules, NAT, port access). Forecast when storage will run out. Identify underutilised resources (cost optimisation). Migrate on-prem servers to Microsoft Azure. Roll out Microsoft 365 across the organisation. Upgrade virtualisation hosts. Network redesign (new VLANs, better segmentation).
