NATIONAL SALES MANAGER - Informal Trade and Wholesale LOCATION: Anywhere in South Africa TRAVEL: Extensive national travel, with frequent travel to Johannesburg SALARY: R80,000 to R100,000 per month A growing FMCG business in the snack and food manufacturing sector is looking for an experienced National Sales Manager to help build and develop its informal trade sales channel. The successful candidate may be based anywhere in South Africa. The role will involve frequent travel to Johannesburg, regular travel to all other regions and significant time in the market with customers and the regional sales team. The successful candidate will take an active role in developing the route-to-market strategy, opening new customer channels and building the regional sales structure. Key responsibilities: - Develop and implement the informal trade sales strategy - Identify new routes to market and regional growth opportunities - Build relationships with wholesalers, cash and carries and independent retailers - Recruit, develop and manage a regional sales team - Set sales targets, calling cycles and regional performance measures - Support pricing, promotions, product launches and customer negotiations - Monitor sales performance, market activity and competitor movement - Work closely with operations, distribution and senior management - Travel extensively across South Africa, including frequent travel to Johannesburg Minimum requirements: - Proven senior sales management experience within FMCG - Direct and substantial informal trade experience is non-negotiable - Strong understanding of wholesalers, cash and carries, independent stores, spaza shops and township trade - Experience building or expanding a sales team or route-to-market structure - Strong commercial, negotiation and relationship-management skills - Ability to work in a growing and entrepreneurial business environment - Based in South Africa and able to travel nationally - Comfortable spending a substantial amount of time travelling and in the market - Valid driver's licence General modern trade or key account experience without direct informal trade exposure will not be sufficient. Remuneration: R80,000 to R100,000 per month, depending on experience and proven informal trade capability
