Join a leading private hospital in Gauteng as an Operating Theatre Trained Registered Nurse. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated theatre professional with extensive operating theatre experience, excellent clinical and technical expertise, and a passion for delivering exceptional perioperative patient care within a dynamic and fast-paced surgical environment.
*Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based perioperative nursing care to patients in accordance with hospital policies, theatre protocols, and best practice standards.
*Prepare the operating theatre for surgical procedures by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and consumables are available, sterile, and functioning correctly.
*Perform the role of Scrub Nurse during surgical procedures, maintaining strict aseptic technique and ensuring the sterile field is preserved at all times.
*Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by accurately preparing, handling, and passing instruments, sutures, and specialised equipment during procedures.
*Conduct accurate surgical counts of instruments, swabs, needles, and consumables in accordance with hospital policies and patient safety standards.
*Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and draping while ensuring patient dignity, safety, and pressure area care are maintained.
*Monitor patients throughout the perioperative process and promptly identify and report any concerns or changes to the multidisciplinary team.
*Ensure all theatre equipment, specialised instruments, and surgical devices are properly operated, maintained, and readily available for procedures.
*Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive perioperative documentation in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
*Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control measures, sterilisation processes, and quality assurance initiatives within the operating theatre environment.
*Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, theatre practitioners, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
*Participate in emergency procedures and provide efficient support during complex and high-acuity surgical cases.
*Assist with the orientation, mentoring, and support of junior nursing staff, students, and newly appointed theatre personnel where required.
*Maintain a high standard of professional conduct and clinical competence through continuous professional development and adherence to South African Nursing Council (SANC) regulations.
*Participate in stock control, management of theatre consumables, and ensuring cost-effective utilisation of resources within the operating theatre department.
*Demonstrate flexibility in covering various surgical disciplines, including General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, and Cardiothoracic procedures where required.
Education
*Diploma/Degree in Operating Theatre Nursing/Perioperative Nursing.
*Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a General Nurse.
*Diploma/Degree in General Nursing.
Experience
*2-3 Years Experience in Theatre Scrub Nursing.
*Strong communication and teamwork skills.
*BLS certification advantageous.
*ACLS certification advantageous.
