Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and execution of annual sales, profitability, and operating expense budgets for the region, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
- Drive achievement of regional sales targets through effective forecasting, budget management, performance tracking, and implementation of corrective action plans where required.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sales team consisting of 4 direct reports and 1 indirect report, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective territory management and execution excellence through consistent use of CRM and territory management systems, customer targeting strategies, and call planning processes.
- Monitor and optimize sales force productivity, focusing on customer coverage, call efficiency, time management, and execution of sales strategies.
- Conduct regular field visits and in-field coaching sessions to strengthen selling capabilities, customer engagement, negotiation skills, and product knowledge across the team.
- Develop and implement individualized development plans, identifying training needs and supporting ongoing professional growth of team members.
- Manage the full performance management cycle, including goal setting, ongoing coaching, performance reviews, mid-year and annual appraisals, and succession planning.
- Analyze market, sales, prescription, and retail performance data (including IQVIA/ImpactRx, SSD, and internal sales data) to identify opportunities, risks, and growth levers, and translate insights into actionable business plans.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key pharmacy chain customers, with particular focus on strategic account management and business growth opportunities.
- Partner closely with Marketing, Business Unit Leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure effective execution of brand strategies, promotional campaigns, and commercial initiatives.
- Lead regional sales meetings, cycle meetings, and business reviews, ensuring alignment on priorities, objectives, and execution plans.
- Provide regular, accurate, and actionable market intelligence, competitor insights, customer feedback, and business updates to Head Office and senior leadership.
- Oversee sample management processes, ensuring compliant distribution, accurate tracking, and adherence to company policies.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of all sales reports, forecasts, administrative requirements, and regional business updates.
- Prepare and present monthly regional business reviews, including key account performance, sales results, pipeline opportunities, and operational metrics.
- Support the execution of key account strategies within major pharmacy retail groups to maximize sales growth, customer satisfaction, and commercial partnerships.
- Travel within the inland region as required and participate in national meetings, conferences, and business events (approximately 1–3 trips annually).
- Ensure full compliance with all company policies, ethical standards, legal requirements, and industry regulations.
- Promote and embed an integrated dermatology business strategy across the region, ensuring alignment between commercial, medical, and marketing objectives.
- Ensure the timely identification, documentation, and reporting of Adverse Events (AEs) and Product Quality Complaints (PQCs) in accordance with local regulatory requirements and company procedures.
- Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and customer engagement throughout all business activities.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree, diploma, or equivalent post-matric qualification required; a qualification in Business, Sales, Marketing, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or a related healthcare field will be advantageous.
- Formal training or qualification in Sales Management and/or Leadership is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of delivering and exceeding sales targets within the OTC, consumer healthcare, FMCG, dermatology, skincare, or pharmaceutical sectors.
- Minimum of 5 years' sales experience, including at least 2–3 years in a people leadership, supervisory, or sales management role.
- Strong experience managing key pharmacy retail chains and driving commercial performance through field-based sales teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, develop, and motivate high-performing teams while fostering a culture of accountability and engagement.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales, market, and customer data and convert insights into actionable business plans.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in CRM systems, salesforce effectiveness tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the inland region as required.
- Experience within OTC, consumer healthcare, dermatology, skincare, personal care, or FMCG categories.
- Previous experience managing sales teams covering pharmacy retail chains, including key account exposure.
- Understanding of the South African pharmaceutical and retail pharmacy landscape.
