Job Advert Summary
Sylvania Metals is looking for a highly skilled Project Planner to join our operations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and within budget by developing and maintaining detailed schedules, coordinating resources, and supporting project execution.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Project Management/Planning or similar.
- PMI SP (Scheduling Professional) / PMI PMP (Project Management Professional) preferred.
- CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management).
- 4–6 years of experience in project planning within the mining or mineral processing industry.
- Proficiency in project scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of mining operations, PGM processing, and metallurgical project workflows.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid code 8 driver’s license & own vehicle.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers, metallurgists, project manager, business development manager and contractors to define scope, timelines, and resource requirements to develop schedule format (including work breakdown structure and basis of schedule), list of activities and establishes durations for project activities and overall logic for execution of work.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules/overall integrated schedules for mining and PGM processing projects using industry-standard planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) based upon approved project execution strategy and ensure schedule integrity.
- Coordination of project processes (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing) associated with process optimization and business development relevant to schedule development, tracking and maintenance.
- Integrate planning with procurement, logistics, and maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize throughput.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely reporting on schedule impacts due to late acquisition of materials and services.
- Analyses and forecasts time/cost impact as well as determine schedule/cost trends variation and deviations and inform project management of potential problem areas and recommended solutions or recovery plans to schedule/cost impact or delays.
- Act as a technical liaison between stakeholders, consultants, and contractors with reference to schedule adherence.
- Reporting to the Project Manager and the Business Development Manager and monitor, supply feedback on progress against milestones, identifying risks, delays, and opportunities for improvement (weekly progress feedback sessions).
- Prepare accurate progress reports, forecasts, and dashboards including analyses of contractor schedule status reports. Maintains progress and performance charts and reports to communicate project performance to executives, project management and stakeholders.
- Support resource allocation across mining operations, plant upgrades, and capital projects.
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and project records.
