AWS Cloud Engineer Location Gauteng, Johannesburg-Onsite Job Type Contract - Full-Time hours Job Description AWS Cloud Engineers at Intermediate to Senior level, with proven experience in designing, implementing, automating, and supporting enterprise-scale cloud solutions. Candidates should demonstrate strong technical expertise in AWS cloud services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, cloud security, automation, and operational support within complex production environments. The Cloud Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, automation, security, operational support, and continuous improvement of cloud platforms and services, primarily within AWS environments. The resource will work closely with application teams, solution architects, platform engineers, security teams, and vendors to ensure cloud solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and aligned to enterprise standards. This aligns with cloud engineering responsibilities referenced in internal quality engineering and cloud-related documentation. Key Duties and Responsibilities Design, deploy and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure in accordance with best practises and organisational standards. Develop and implement infrastructure as code using tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform. Manage cloud resources including compute, storage, networking and security services. Monitor cloud environments for performance, availability and security using appropriate tools. Implement automation to streamline cloud operations and reduce manual intervention. Collaborate with development, security and operations teams to support continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines. Conduct regular backup, recovery and disaster recovery testing to ensure data integrity and business continuity. Ensure compliance with organisational policies, industry standards and regulatory requirements relevant to banking and finance. Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues promptly to minimise service disruption. Document cloud architecture, configurations and processes to maintain clear knowledge records. Provide technical guidance and support on AWS best practises and emerging technologies. Required Qualifications Formal qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline at a diploma or degree level. AWS Cloud Engineer Related Certifications: The scope of services includes, but is not limited to: Cloud Infrastructure Engineering Cloud Automation and DevOps Platform Reliability and Operations Security and Compliance Cloud Architecture and Solution Support Disaster Recovery and Resilience Engineering Cost Optimization and Cloud Governance Environment and Platform Management Documentation and Knowledge Transfer Experience Minimum of 3-5 years' experience working with AWS cloud platforms in a professional capacity. Experience in cloud infrastructure design, deployment and management within a banking or financial services environment. Proven track record of implementing infrastructure as code and automation solutions. Experience working with DevOps methodologies and tools. Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of AWS core services including EC2, S3, VPC, Lambda, RDS and IAM. Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash or PowerShell. Good knowledge of networking concepts including subnets, routing, firewalls and VPNs. Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes is advantageous. Ability to analyse and resolve technical problems efficiently. Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate technical information to non-technical audiences. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
