Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Tekla Draughtsman with 3–5 years of experience in Tekla Structures to join our team. The successful candidate will be permanently based at our client, where they will provide detailing support for mining and mineral processing projects.

The role involves producing high-quality 3D models and fabrication drawings for structural steel associated with mining plants, materials handling systems, conveyors, transfer stations, chutes, platforms, access structures, and other heavy industrial infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate 3D structural steel models using Tekla Structures.
  • Produce fabrication, assembly, single-part, and general arrangement (GA) drawings.
  • Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs), bolt lists, and material take-offs.
  • Interpret engineering designs, calculations, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate closely with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Ensure all detailing complies with project specifications, client standards, and applicable codes.
  • Resolve detailing clashes and constructability issues before fabrication.
  • Revise drawings in accordance with engineering changes and client comments.
  • Maintain drawing registers and document control in accordance with project procedures.
  • Participate in design review meetings and provide technical detailing support throughout project execution.
  • Liaise with fabrication workshops where required to resolve drawing-related queries.

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma or Certificate in Draughting, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years' proven experience using Tekla Structures.
  • Demonstrated experience detailing structural steel for mining, industrial, or heavy engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and structural calculations.
  • Knowledge of welding symbols, bolted connections, and fabrication detailing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Advantageous Skills

  • Experience with AutoCAD - Revit
  • Experience using Trimble Connect.
  • Familiarity with South African structural steel standards (SANS) and relevant international codes.
  • Exposure to EPCM project environments.
  • Experience coordinating with fabrication workshops and site construction teams.
