To assist the LHDA with the implementation of the PHAP and facilitate knowledge transfer and capacity building of the District Health Management Team to ensure sustainability beyond construction.

The successful candidate will, among other duties, be expected to perform the following:

Develop a detailed implementation plan, indicating timeframes, deliverables, and budget.
Liaise with other service providers engaged by the project, including water and sanitation, resettlement action plan, and occupational health and safety programmes, in order to coordinate activities.
Partner with national and local health authorities in the implementation of the Public Health Action Plan.
Conduct periodic health surveys.
Perform project management functions.
Perform human resources management functions.

Level of Effort

The successful candidate shall be engaged on a full-time basis for an initial period of one year, renewable up to a maximum of three years, based on satisfactory performance.

The Public Health Specialist is expected to be based in Mokhotlong for the duration of the contract.

Required Qualifications And Experience

Primary qualification in a health field (Nursing, Public Health).
More than 10 years’ experience in public health, primary health care, and project management.
Special interest in:

Maternal and child health.
Sexual and reproductive health.
Epidemiology.
HIV/AIDS.
Community outreach.
Nutrition.
Referral systems.
Public health personnel training.

At least 5 years of experience in public health consulting.
At least 2 years of experience in large infrastructure projects.

A Master’s in Public Health (MPH) will be an added advantage.

Essential Requirements For The Post

The incumbent must:

Be a Public Health Practitioner with experience in Lesotho’s health system.
Have a good understanding of the functions of a district hospital.
Have the ability to design and conduct primary health care programmes in rural and remote communities.

Knowledge of Sesotho culture and language will be an advantage.
