Assistant Housekeeping Supervisor / Assistant Housekeeper
Location: Wine Estate, Stellenbosch
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Housekeeper to support the Executive Housekeeper in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, and guest satisfaction across the estate. The successful candidate will assist in overseeing the housekeeping team, ensuring all guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities are maintained to luxury hospitality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Housekeeper with the daily operations of the housekeeping department.
- Supervise housekeeping staff and allocate daily duties.
- Inspect guest rooms, suites, villas, public areas, and staff facilities to ensure exceptional cleanliness and presentation.
- Ensure all rooms are prepared and serviced according to established luxury hospitality standards.
- Assist with staff training, coaching, and performance management.
- Monitor housekeeping supplies, linen, guest amenities, and cleaning equipment.
- Report maintenance issues promptly and follow up to ensure completion.
- Coordinate with Reception, Maintenance, Laundry, and Food & Beverage departments to ensure seamless guest experiences.
- Ensure housekeeping schedules are completed efficiently and staffing levels meet operational requirements.
- Maintain accurate housekeeping records, including room status reports and inventory.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and company policies.
- Handle guest requests and complaints professionally and resolve issues promptly.
- Conduct regular stocktakes of linen, cleaning materials, and guest amenities.
- Assist with recruitment and onboarding of housekeeping staff when required.
- Lead by example by maintaining high professional standards and a hands-on approach.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Certificate or Diploma in Hospitality Management will be advantageous.
- Minimum 3 years' housekeeping experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or senior housekeeping role.
- Previous experience in a 4-star or 5-star hotel, lodge, or luxury wine estate is essential.
- Excellent knowledge of housekeeping procedures and luxury service standards.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight turnaround times.
- Good communication skills in English; Afrikaans will be advantageous.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office and hotel property management systems).
- Attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
- Flexible to work weekends, public holidays, and shifts.
- Valid driver's licence and own transport will be advantageous.
