SUMMARY

Our client, a well established business in the construction sector is looking for a detail-oriented Junior Quantity Surveyor to join their Quantity Surveying department, reporting to the Senior QS.

Requirements

• Matric plus a BSc in Quantity Surveying or a related construction/engineering qualification
• 2 years' QS experience (site experience beneficial)
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and attention to detail
• Organised, composed under pressure, and a genuine team player

POSITION INFO

Overview of responsibilities: Materials: After the first quote is approved, create & check specifications to main contract quote & contract. Analyse tender drawings and check for errors, then suggest to draughting department the appropriate changes. For example, details, materials, quantities, etc. Take off and measure buildings in great detail in order to get exact material requirements. This is done according to specific measuring spreadsheets. Compare costing to material measured in terms of quality vs quality vs cost. Compile a comprehensive Material / Loading Schedule of all materials Distribute material schedules to purchasing department, site managers & factory. Sub-Contractors Source quotes for sub-contracting items and negotiate on price where possible. Ensure Quotes procured are comprehensive in including all of the works required to be executed under the Sub contract Ensure sub-contractors are suitably skilled, experienced and qualified to carry out the works required. Ensure the terms of appointment are clear to the sub-contractor in terms of Payment schedule, Retentions, Quality and performance required. Ensure Sub-contractors are appointed on price within the cost allowable. Update and maintain preferred sub-contractor database Negotiate with sub-contractors and create purchase orders. Source and one-off Sub-Contractors needed for a project or for late notifications. Handover relevant documents to Site Manager before or during contracts meeting
