Reports To: Water Production Manager
Purpose of the Role
To diagnose, maintain, and repair plant machinery and equipment in accordance with engineering standards, maintenance specifications, and safety requirements to maximise equipment availability and support uninterrupted water and wastewater operations.
Key Tasks
Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults.
- Perform planned and breakdown maintenance.
- Repair pumps, motors, bearings, and drive systems.
- Carry out alignment, installation, and commissioning of equipment.
- Maintain instrumentation and variable speed drives where applicable.
Plant Reliability and Asset Management
- Monitor equipment performance and identify recurring failures.
- Recommend engineering improvements to reduce downtime.
- Ensure equipment operates within specifications.
Inspection, Safety and Compliance
- Conduct routine inspections.
- Perform risk assessments before maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures.
- Work safely in confined spaces and at heights.
- Verify equipment safety before returning it to service.
Maintenance Planning and Reporting
- Capture maintenance activities in maintenance records.
- Report breakdowns and completed work.
- Support planned maintenance schedules.
Operational Support
- Liaise with production teams regarding maintenance work.
- Respond to emergency call-outs.
- Support achievement of production and service delivery targets.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend process improvements.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards.
- Participate in improvement initiatives and technical problem-solving.

Minimum Qualifications And Experience
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a recognised Millwright Trade Test (Artisan Certificate) or related field.
- 2–3 years’ experience as a qualified Millwright.
- Knowledge of instrumentation, variable speed drives, pump maintenance, alignment, and bearing replacement.
- Ability to work shifts, in confined spaces, and at heights.
- Valid driver’s licence.
