Our client is a leading international consulting engineering and project management firm delivering engineering solutions across the Water, Energy, Infrastructure, Transport and Built Environment sectors. The organisation has an established reputation for delivering multidisciplinary engineering projects and is seeking an experienced Water professional to lead its national Water business.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an accomplished Sector Head: Water to lead its national Water business through the transition from a predominantly regional structure to a centralised, sector-led operating model. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will provide leadership across the broader Water portfolio, including Water Engineering, Water Treatment Works, Wastewater Treatment Works, Dams, Bulk Water Infrastructure, Hydraulic Infrastructure, Construction Supervision and PM / Lead Engineer functions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for sector strategy execution, project delivery performance, technical excellence, commercial discipline, governance, client relationships, and people development.

  • Lead and implement the centralised Water sector operating model.
  • Provide national oversight of Water sector teams, projects, and technical resources.
  • Oversee technical and delivery performance across Water Engineering, Wastewater Treatment Works, Water Treatment Works, Dams and Dam Safety, Reservoirs, Pump Stations, Pipelines, Bulk Water Supply and Hydraulic Infrastructure.
  • Provide leadership oversight to PM / Lead Engineers and Construction Supervision teams.
  • Provide senior-level intervention and technical leadership on strategic, complex, or at-risk Water projects.
  • Drive consistency in project delivery standards, technical reviews, design outputs, construction supervision, reporting and QMS compliance.
  • Own the financial and commercial performance of the Water sector, including revenue, margins, utilisation, forecasting, resourcing, and corrective action on underperforming projects.
  • Support business development, client engagement, strategic tenders, proposal strategy, and mobilisation planning for newly awarded Water projects.
  • Develop technical capability, succession plans and professional development pathways for Water engineers, technologists, technicians, PM / Lead Engineers, and project leaders.
  • Promote collaboration between regional teams.
  • Ensure compliance with the Delegation of Authority, QMS, risk governance, tender approval procedures, contractual approval processes and applicable company policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • BSc Engineering / BEng Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) is strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years' relevant consulting engineering and water infrastructure delivery experience.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary Water teams and major infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in Water Engineering, Water Treatment Works, Wastewater Treatment Works, Bulk Water Systems, Dams, Pump Stations, Pipelines and Reservoirs.
  • Strong project delivery, commercial, governance, risk management, and stakeholder management capability.
  • Experience leading or integrating a national sector/business line under a matrix or centralised operating model will be advantageous.
  • Experience overseeing Water Engineers, PM / Lead Engineers and Construction Supervision teams on major water infrastructure projects will be advantageous.
  • Strong client relationships with municipalities, water boards, public sector entities, and regional infrastructure clients will be advantageous.
