PURPOSE OF POSITION
To provide high-quality patient care according to the nursing scope of practice as defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care in accordance with the scope of practice, clinical guidelines, and organizational policies.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while ensuring compliance with clinical care standards and care bundles.
- Monitor patient acuity and contribute to effective staffing decisions to ensure appropriate nursing care and skills mix.
- Ensure accurate patient documentation, billing-related information, and reconciliation of patient files.
- Promote effective stock management through correct usage, charging, monitoring of stock levels, and reporting shortages or expired items.
- Ensure safe handling, cleaning, storage, and maintenance of clinical equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Identify, manage, and escalate clinical risks, patient safety incidents, and infection prevention and control concerns.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
- Deliver excellent patient-centred care by addressing patient concerns and promoting a positive patient experience.
- Provide guidance, support, and supervision to junior staff and healthcare team members.
- Participate in staff education, skills development, and maintain required clinical competencies and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with valid APC.
- Good interpersonal skills with doctors, patients and colleagues are essential.
- Preferably have two or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse in ICU.
- Preferably be trained or qualified.
- Must be prepared to work additional hours.
- Must be able to work independently under minimum supervision.
- Must be computer literate – MS Word & Excel.
- Must be prepared to do shiftwork (Night shift / Day Shift).
