Role Purpose
The Community of Practice Lead for Business Analysis is responsible for leading, developing, and maturing the Business Analysis capability across the organisation. This role combines people leadership, practice leadership, and hands-on business analysis expertise to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality business analysis services.
The incumbent will establish and drive the Business Analysis Community of Practice, oversee a team of Business Analysts, define standards and methodologies, support capability development, and provide senior business analysis leadership on strategic initiatives and complex programmes.
The role is accountable for fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, innovation, and delivery excellence while ensuring alignment between business objectives and solution outcomes
Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Commerce, or
related field.
- Business Analysis certification (CBAP, CCBA, ECBA, AAC, or equivalent).
- Agile certifications advantageous (PSM, CSM, SAFe, POPM, etc.).
- 8–12 years of Business Analysis experience.
- 3–5 years in a people leadership or practice leadership role.
- Experience managing and developing Business Analysts.
- Experience leading complex enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Strong experience in requirements management, process analysis, and stakeholder
engagement.
- Experience working within Agile and traditional delivery environments.
Preferred
- Postgraduate qualification in Business, Leadership, Strategy, or Technology.
- Change Management or Process Improvement certification.
- Experience establishing or leading a Community of Practice.
- Experience in digital transformation and business process optimisation initiatives.
- Financial Services, Telecommunications, Retail, or Technology sector experience (as
relevant).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Community of Practice Leadership
- Establish, manage, and continuously improve the Business Analysis Community of Practice.
- Define and maintain Business Analysis frameworks, methodologies, standards, templates, tools, and best practices.
- Drive consistency of business analysis practices across projects, products, and programmes.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and lessons learned across the BA
community.
- Lead practice forums, communities, workshops, and capability-building initiatives.
- Maintain governance and quality standards for business analysis deliverables.
- Promote awareness and adoption of industry best practices and emerging trends.
- People Leadership and Capability Development
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach a team of Business Analysts.
- Conduct performance management, goal setting, and career development discussions.
- Develop competency frameworks and career pathways for Business Analysts.
- Identify capability gaps and create targeted development plans.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and talent retention.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Build high-performing teams aligned to organisational values and objectives.
- Senior Business Analysis Delivery
- Act as Lead Business Analyst on strategic, complex, or enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Partner with business stakeholders to define business problems, opportunities, and
desired outcomes.
- Facilitate workshops, process analysis, requirements elicitation, and stakeholder
engagement sessions.
- Translate business needs into actionable requirements and solution recommendations.
- Define business cases, benefits, process improvements, and operating model
enhancements.
- Support product, project, and delivery teams throughout the solution lifecycle.
- Ensure requirements are traceable, measurable, and aligned to business objectives.
- Provide guidance on Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with senior business leaders and technology stakeholders.
- Act as the trusted advisor for business analysis practices and approaches.
- Influence strategic decision-making through analysis and insights.
- Facilitate alignment across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Manage expectations and resolve conflicts through effective communication and
negotiation.
- Governance and Quality Assurance
- Establish quality assurance processes for business analysis artefacts.
- Conduct peer reviews and ensure adherence to established standards.
- Monitor BA delivery performance and capability maturity.
- Track and report on community effectiveness and value delivered.
- Ensure compliance with organisational governance and risk requirements.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Drive process optimisation and operational excellence initiatives.
- Introduce tools, techniques, and best practices that enhance analysis effectiveness.
- Benchmark organisational BA maturity against industry standards.
- Lead initiatives that improve collaboration, knowledge management, and delivery
outcomes.
