The Role

An exclusive lifestyle retirement village with a frail care centre in beautiful surroundings near the Knysna estuary requires an experienced General Manager with a positive disposition towards the elderly. The incumbent will report to the Management Committee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Management

  • Overseeing and managing all daily operations, including those relevant to the care centre, kitchen, common areas, maintenance, security, cleaning, gardens, utilities, and communal facilities.

Resident Relations & Community Wellbeing.

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Drafting of budgets and monthly reporting to the Management Committee, monitoring expenditure and maintaining financial discipline.
  • Overseeing billings and procurement processes, collection of receivables and payment of payables.
  • Prepare salary and wage input documents.
  • Maintain accurate administrative, compliance, and operational records.
  • Ensure minutes are kept of all Management Meetings and General Meetings.
  • Cashflow management.
  • Oversee the annual financial audit in conjunction with the bookkeeper.
  • Oversee completion and submission of SARS returns and monthly PAYE/SDL/UIF.
  • Completion and submission of statutory returns such as COIDA, EE, POPIA, PAIA, etc.
  • Submit proposals for staff remuneration adjustments to the Management Committee.

Asset & Infrastructure Management

Staff Leadership & HR Management Compliance, Risk & Safety:

  • Oversee health & safety legislation, fire regulations, elder-care standards, and all other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure appropriate short-term insurance.

Skills and Experience

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Strong leadership, integrity, and accountability.
  • Excellent communication (in English with Afrikaans a plus).
  • Financial literacy and administrative competence.
  • Knowledge of facility management.
  • High emotional intelligence and diplomacy, with strong interpersonal skills.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Matriculation.
  • 5+ years in retirement-village, estate, hospitality, or community-facility management.
  • Experience working with older adults.
  • Strong administrative and financial management capability.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office and management systems.)
  • Frail care management experience desirable.

OTHER

  • Clean driver’s licence and own vehicle essential.
  • Credit and criminal checks will be necessary.
  • Onsite accommodation available for couple if needed but no young children allowed.
  • Preference will be given to Garden Route residents.
