SUMMARY

Our client, an established family-owned business operating within the specialist construction and installation sector, is looking for a hands-on Procurement Manager to join their team.

This role requires someone who understands more than purchasing. You will need a sound technical understanding of how a building comes together and how different structural elements and services interface during specialist installation projects. This will enable you to interpret project requirements, source the correct materials and anticipate potential procurement or installation challenges.

You must be willing to get stuck in, solve problems and figure things out. The business also welcomes someone who can challenge existing ways of working and introduce practical improvements to its procurement processes and efficiencies.

POSITION INFO

The Person: Matric plus a relevant recognised tertiary qualification. Minimum 5 years' procurement or purchasing experience. Construction industry procurement experience is essential. A sound technical understanding of building construction and the sequencing of construction projects. An understanding of how structural elements and building services, including ceilings, plumbing and electrical services, interface during technical installations. Able to interpret project specifications, drawings, bills of quantities and material requirements. Experience sourcing technical components, building materials and project-specific equipment. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Working knowledge of Pastel. Strong negotiation and supplier management skills. Practical, resourceful and solutions-driven. Highly organised with excellent attention to detail. Able to work independently, take initiative and meet deadlines. Comfortable recommending and implementing process improvements. Trustworthy and comfortable handling confidential supplier and financial information. Own transport would be advantageous. Candidates who are available immediately will be given preference. What you will be doing: Source, negotiate and purchase technical components, building materials, parts and equipment for construction and installation projects. Review project requirements and ensure the correct materials and components are procured. Obtain and compare quotations based on pricing, quality, technical suitability and delivery timelines. Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers. Place and track purchase orders to ensure materials arrive at project sites on time. Co-ordinate deliveries to site using the company truck and external suppliers. Build and manage relationships with suppliers and subcontractors. Monitor stock levels and co-ordinate the reordering of materials. Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier documentation. Resolve supply, delivery and material-related challenges as they arise. Identify and implement practical improvements to procurement processes and efficiencies. Assist the Financial Manager with capturing supplier information and invoices on an adhoc basis. Working hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 16:30.
