Proposals Engineer (x2) - Durban, KwaZulu-Natal - R25,000 - R35,000 CTC per month, Depending on Qualifications & Experience

CK Africa Talent is recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturer within the industrial boiler and heavy engineering sector for two experienced Proposals Engineers to join their Durban-based team.

This opportunity is suited to an enthusiastic and technically minded engineer who enjoys preparing engineered proposals, cost estimates, and tenders for complex industrial projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering accurate, commercially competitive proposals while supporting business growth across the industrial manufacturing sector.

• Develop and compile technically compliant and commercially competitive proposals and cost estimates.
• Generate new business opportunities through engagement with existing and prospective clients.
• Review RFQs, technical specifications, commercial conditions, and contractual requirements.
• Clearly define project scope and identify technical requirements.
• Liaise with internal departments, suppliers, and customers throughout the tender process.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, pricing schedules, and project timelines.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations.
• Compile technical and commercial tender documentation.
• Follow up on submitted tenders and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Review contracts and purchase orders for commercial and technical acceptance.
• Prepare project handover documentation for the Projects Department.
• Conduct boiler inspections together with engineering teams where required.
• Maintain proposal databases and tender records.
• Participate in monthly sales and proposal review meetings.
• Support the achievement of departmental sales and profitability objectives.

Minimum Requirements

• BTech/BSc in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (preferred), or National Diploma in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• Strong academic performance in Mathematics, Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials and Technical Drawing.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Own reliable vehicle.
• Must be based in Durban or be willing to relocate to Durban at own cost.

Experience

• Minimum 3 years' experience within a project-based engineering environment.
• Minimum 3 years' experience within an Industrial Watertube Boiler or heavy engineering environment.
• Sound knowledge of industrial boiler systems and associated plant.
• Experience within a Drawing Office, Projects, Contracts, Sales or Tendering environment.
• Experience preparing technical and commercial proposals and estimates.

Technical Requirements

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Tender preparation and proposal development.
• Cost estimating and commercial pricing.
• Knowledge of FIDIC and GCC contract conditions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Projects.
• Sound commercial and financial understanding.
