Job Purpose
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for leading and managing large-scale fire sprinkler and fire protection projects from inception through to completion. The successful candidate will oversee project planning, execution, budgeting, client relations, resource allocation, and compliance to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to industry standards.
This role requires extensive experience within the fire sprinkler industry, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple high-value projects simultaneously.
POSITION INFO
Key Responsibilities Project Management Manage multiple fire sprinkler installation projects across commercial, industrial, retail, warehousing, and high-risk facilities. Oversee all phases of projects including planning, procurement, installation, commissioning, and final handover. Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource plans. Monitor project progress and ensure milestones and deadlines are achieved. Ensure projects are delivered according to approved specifications, drawings, and client requirements. Client & Stakeholder Management Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers. Attend project meetings, technical meetings, and site progress reviews. Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and key stakeholders. Manage project variations, claims, and contractual matters effectively. Team Leadership Lead and supervise project managers, site supervisors, technicians, subcontractors, and installation teams. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project staff. Ensure effective communication and coordination between all departments. Monitor team performance and ensure productivity targets are achieved. Financial & Commercial Management Prepare and manage project budgets and forecasts. Monitor project costs, profitability, and cash flow. Review and approve procurement, subcontractor appointments, and supplier agreements. Ensure accurate progress claims, invoicing, and project reporting. Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies. Technical & Compliance Responsibilities Ensure compliance with SANS standards, fire protection regulations, OHSA requirements, and client specifications. Review technical drawings, hydraulic calculations, and project designs where required. Ensure quality standards and installation best practices are maintained throughout all projects. Oversee inspections, testing, commissioning, and handover processes. Operational Responsibilities Conduct regular site inspections and project audits. Resolve technical, operational, and commercial challenges efficiently. Support tendering and business development activities when required. Drive continuous improvement within project execution processes and operational procedures. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 / Matric. Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or similar. Minimum 8-10 years' experience within the fire sprinkler or fire protection industry. Proven experience managing large-scale fire sprinkler installation projects. Strong understanding of sprinkler systems, pumps, tanks, hydrants, hose reels, and fire suppression systems. Strong knowledge of SANS regulations and fire protection standards. Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management software. Valid driver's license. Willingness to travel to project sites as required. Preferred Requirements SAQCC registration advantageous. Experience managing high-value commercial and industrial projects. Knowledge of Revit/BIM coordination advantageous. Experience with contract management and NEC/JBCC contracts advantageous. Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and people management skills.
