We are seeking a qualified and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team at our Nigel Feedlot in Gauteng. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse fleet of equipment, including trucks, light vehicles, earth-moving machinery, tractors, and agricultural implements. This hands-on role is critical to ensure the reliability and operational efficiency of our farming and feedlot operations through preventative maintenance, fault finding, and timely breakdown repairs. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components, with a commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and minimizing equipment downtime.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

  • Diagnose, inspect, service, repair, and maintain diesel-powered trucks, earthmoving machinery, and agricultural equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and scheduled service intervals.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, gearboxes, differentials, and final drives.
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, and hydraulic motors.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults using diagnostic equipment and manufacturer software.
  • Service and repair systems, steering systems, suspension, and drivetrain components.
  • Conduct engine overhauls, rebuilds, and component replacements when required.
  • Repair cooling systems, fuel injection systems, turbochargers, exhaust systems, and air intake systems.
  • Maintain and repair heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and commercial fleet vehicles.
  • Service and repair earthmoving equipment including excavators, bulldozers, graders, wheel loaders, TLBs, dump trucks, and articulated dump trucks.
  • Diagnose and repair agricultural machinery including tractors, combine harvesters, balers, planters, sprayers, and other farm implements.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and mechanical modifications where required.
  • Inspect machinery for wear and identify components requiring replacement before failure.
  • Complete pre-delivery inspections, commissioning, and final quality checks on repair equipment.
  • Carry out field service and emergency breakdown repairs at customer sites.
  • Use diagnostic tools, scan tools, and specialized testing equipment to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and service bulletins.
  • Maintain accurate service reports, job cards, maintenance records, and parts usage documentation.
  • Order, identify, and replace spare parts while ensuring cost-effective repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and safe workshop practices.
  • Conduct risk assessments before commencing repairs on heavy equipment.
  • Test machinery after repairs to ensure safe operation and optimal performance.
  • Maintain workshop tools, specialized equipment, and a clean, organized work environment.
  • Provide technical advice and support to operators, supervisors, and customers regarding equipment maintenance.
  • Minimize equipment downtime through efficient fault finding and timely repairs.
  • Work independently or within a maintenance team to meet production and operational targets.
  • Perform scheduled inspections to maximize equipment reliability and extend asset life.
  • Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer standards and company quality requirements.
  • Respond to after-hours callouts and breakdowns when required.
  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship while adhering to company policies and industry best practices

Qualifications

Matric certificate (Grade 12)

  • Qualification as Diesel Mechanic – Red seal
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience.
  • Experience on tractors, farm implements, trucks, and earth moving equipment
  • Must be prepared to work overtime, weekends, public holidays and do standby.
  • Must be willing to relocate.
  • Good health
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Code 14 licence to your advantage
  • Own reliable transport.
